I did run an Open course of Fin5 stage 2 which was on the terrain of the WOC Middle Qual on the next day and I grabbed the oportunity to run with a cam. Did a decent performance but the course didn't go to the trickiest part on the other side of the road where our courses started. Anyway it was nice.

WOC 2025 Model event - my third visit of Valimaki so I was quite OK with the orienteering this time. This was the easier to run part of the terrain.

Another training in Finland for the World Champs 2025 in Kuopio. Middle distance course in the terrain from the World Cup 2024 (Middle). I generally managed the orienteering but did two big mistakes to 6th and 8th controls.. Looking into the terrain after 5th I was waiting to enter an area with good visibility and I'll see the big stone but I never did that. Afterwards I had no option to find myself and look for the control. At latest I ended up on the ride and went back for the control. For 8th I was going a bit too high and into the green in stead of the white forest on the line and though I was gone too far already... so stopped too early and it took some time to find where I was..
Ground was rough and tough but maybe a bit better in general.

Short course in the terrain of the World Cup round (autumn 2024). It's a nice and quite challenging terrain, especially when haven't been much in Scandinavian forest for a long time (except Tiomila 2024).. Terrains in general in Kuopio region are quite rough and tough physically. I did a stable technically training with some hesitations in the circle on 4th and 5th controls.

This is our first training in Finland for the World Champs 2025 in Kuopio. Middle distance course in Vanuvuori where I generally managed the orienteering but did a big mistake to 11th control where I stopped too early and also expected to see the slope where the control is a bit clearer.. Pace was not so high especially after the mistake. Ground was rough and tough.

I did a decent race except few places where I was hesitating and a big miss to 13th where I was thinking about taking my gel and other stuff and did not look for one of the easiest controls. Felt good in general and run mostly straighter.

I did a decent race but still did one (two) big mistakes. I can say I was struggling quite much on the uphills already at the beginning - it was soft in the terrain. Maybe because of this tiredness I chose bad route choice towards 6th control - going around all the way on the asphalt which cost me more than a minute - straighter option is best and I can say I was in doubt for quite a while when going out of 5th. Towards 7th I did a mistake - not reading the contours and the circle enough - ended up quite high in the re-entrant and had to read and go down. And the last but biggest mistake was towards 9th control - since I had seen the area and the control itself I barely looked at my map - took a brief direction and went onto the leg... when in the big valley I met quite a bushy area and decided I've ended much to the right on the green and without looking too much I crossed the area and when approached the white slope I went left. Obviously my direction was correct and I was on the line but crossed a bushy area that is generalized. Not paying enough attention cost me 2 minutes. So in the end for these controls - 6th (1 min), 7th (30 secs) and 9th (2 mins) I lost 3:30mins.

I did good job on the course but some problems towards 4th - I lost my contact lense and also 50-55 secs in total. Then another 40secs miss to 5th control. I was not secure on the route to 7th and lost a few seconds in the circle. Sub-optimal route-choice to 16th (and the green below the powerline was further down which worsen the route). Maybe a sub-optimal route-choice to 17th as well. Generally happy with the race.

Good race except few bad choices - I lost 10 secs to 3rd control with a bad choice and then also bad micro-route choice right before the control. Then lost another 10 in the beginning to the long route-choice leg since I was not prepared and went out wrong until I saw all the options. Not perfect to 23rd as well since I had no clear view over the whole leg.

Velikden Cup 2025 - the middle distance which was held on a newly mapped area around Fiseka, near Targovishte. We got a nice technical middle distance terrain with some rocky parts and stones and stony fields. I did a good race except a bigger mistake (about 1 minute to 27th) to second last control where I miss-matched a vegetation border and entered the control area from a wrong place. I did few other small misses (15secs to 15th and 20secs to 22nd controls, 10secs to 25th). I was fastest, 2:44 in front of Ivan Fomichev and 5:16 in front of 3rd place Teodor Yordanov.

A nice varied course. I did two major mistakes - towards 9 control where I did go way too much to the right into the green (1:20) and to 11 where I did not end up on the bridge and decided not to go through the water so had to go around (40 secs). Otherwise mainly good orienteering with some hesitations here and there.
