WUOC Sprint and Long maps
2008-07-31 в 21:14:24
Here are my maps from the sprint and long distance of the World University Orienteering Championship. It was a fast sprint but there were some tricky parts of the course. The long distance was very demanding (for the not-so-well prepared runners... :)) I didn’t make a good race neither on the sprint nor on the long. I made about one minute mistakes in the sprint and more than ten minutes on the long. Actually I thought it could be worse on the long but it was nice when I was controling the race.

Tomorrow is the middle distance but it`s not sure if I will start because of an injury that I got today. I hurt my knee a lot just before the second control.

World University Champs are opened!
2008-07-29 в 19:22:02
WUOC was officially opened today here in Tartu, Estonia. The competitions starts tomorrow with sprint – I`m the second-last starter in mens class (11:13h). The terrain is very interesting so we can expect such courses but we will see soon... You can follow the results online on the website of WUOC.
Estonia, orienteering, world champs, university?!

Me and several more runners came to Estonia directly after WOC. We had two trainings already but I`m not ready to train at full speed because of an illness. I`m just jogging into the forest but still I`m making some mistakes. The terrains are nice and challenging so there is what to learn.

The competitions are going to begin on 30th of July with sprint distance and continue on 31st of July, 1st and 2nd of August respectively with long, middle and relay. The Estonian terrains are known with the dense forest with a lot of undergrowth. So I hope that the organizers will make even a small part of the courses into the white forest. Here is the official website of the WUOC 2008. It`s nice when you are called as one of the favourites...:)
WOC Sprint Final missed out with a second [routes]
2008-07-13 в 14:58:14
Today it was the sprint qualification of World Champs in Czech Republic. It was very fast race with not so much technical difficulties. I made a small mistake on 9th control while going to the near bush. Plus maybe I had to cross the fence for the 13th control but it was quiet high. Even for the next control I was hesitating about it. All in all I made a stable race but the chance wasn’t with me. I missed out the final in afternoon with a second. Here are my routes.

Now I’m going to support the Bulgarian runners in all of the rest distances and enjoy watching the WOC.

The Great Jukola
2008-06-18 в 18:01:46
A week before Jukola a team from Bulgaria went to Finland to take participation in the biggest international relay. We stayed there the whole week and had few trainings plus Forssa Games. I liked the terrains as they are very challenging but still I didn`t manage to orienteer well out there. Our team made what it should to take the 206 place in Tampere-Jukola. We had very good start of the relay with Nikolay Dimitrov on first leg and Stanimir Belomazhev on second. Afterwards all of us made average runs. I was the anchor man – seventh leg and I did a lot of mistakes – more than 10mins so I can`t be satisfied with my race. With a time of 110:18 on the last leg I finished our relay at 206 place /~1235 teams/. It was great to see all the stuff around Jukola.

Me at the spectator control

The coming weekend the national champs in sprint, long and relay will be held in Velingrad. I`ll try to do my best even I have some problems last months. On Wednesday, in the evening we are going to Sweden for the JWOC so I have no other chance but believe that I`m well prepared for the challenge.

Back home for a few days...

Finally I`m at home. I had a long trip but now I`m at my born-place. I visited Goteborg and Ventspils as an orienteering places. It was very nice orienteering there and all in all I found what orienteering is at the end. In Bulgaria it`s different. Everywhere it`s challenging in it`s own way. The main point is how experienced orienteer are you? In Latvia I though about how many of the participants of this EOC had a Scandinavian clubs – the answer is that most of the runners (with few exceptions like ME) had such. That is very important about experience, preparation and skills of an orienteer.

As I didn’t ran well at European Champs I got my participation as not successful but I know that I learnt a lot there and there will be some benefits in some time. I hope that I made enough mistakes during the last two weeks and I will save them up in the most important competitions this season. The not so good news are that our BG junior-team (eventually) will miss the official training camp before JWOC in Sweden.

This weekend the national champs in middle distance (Brown Cup`08) will held near Veliko Tarnovo. Right after the final in Sunday me and the other part of Bulgarian team for Jukola are going to Finland for a camp before the great relay. We will take part in Forssa Games too. Here are the web-pages: Forssa Games; Tampere Jukola.

The maps from the camp in Swe are now changed with better quality and all the maps from European Champs in Latvia are now online.

14th place into the sprint B final (EOC + map)
2008-05-26 в 21:19:52
I made it only for a 14th place into the B-final. I ran the 3.3k course for 14:49, and the winner from SWE - Anders Holmberg – 13:16. There were some misses from the organizers on the map and that cause my first mistake about 20secs. After that I made two more mistakes all together about 20-25secs maybe. It was quiet hard for me to run it under 14mins as the several runners did. Emil Wingstedt win the sprint A-final on EOC for a fourth time in a row. Kiril Nikolov made his best on EOC – 19th place and the other Bulgarian man into the A-final Ivaylo Kamenarov became 40. Iliana Shandurkova got the 41 place.

Tomorrow I will start on the long qual and I hope it will be better even that today I hurt my knee a little. More information at EOC 2008.

Out of the final for 3secs - EOC Sprint
2008-05-26 в 12:25:12
This morning it was the first race of EOC – sprint qualification and the final is afternoon. I made few mistakes – about 15secs and missed the final for 3 seconds. I wasn`t able to push it as hard as I want but still it was not a disaster. I will run the B-final at full speed and hope to make it better.

Congratulations to all Bulgarians (Kiril Nikolov, Ivaylo Kamenarov and Iliana Shandurkova) that made it to the A-final.

The camp is over, EOC is waiting :)

Today we made our last training this camp on swedish ground. After 8 technical trainings (4~middle, 2~long, 2 sprint) even I made terrible amount of mistakes I can say that the time I was in swedish forest would be usefull for the JWOC.

This afternoon we went to a entertainment park Liseberg and we had a lot of fun out there. It was a great finish of this camp. After so many mistakes that I made on trainings it was obligatory on having a little fun.

Tomorrow me and Kiril Nikolov are flying to Latvia, where we will start in European championships 2008. We will have 7 competitions and a tough program in Ventspils and its surroundings.
